Before leaving the US for Suriname, we read packing suggestions from the SUR1 Volunteers.  We then made a list of things for people to ship us if they wanted to send us something.  And we got a LOT of packages.  Most of the time it was dried sauce packets or arts and crafts supplies.  I was constantly going to the post office to pick up mail and pay taxes.
