Ode to Joy

For some strange reason, my aunt had a piano in her house. Now, she has a half-sister who actually plays the piano and has for my entire life, but this aunt had never touched a musical instrument in her life. So, while I was living with her and had nothing better to do with my time, I taught myself how to play the piano. It was very much like it’s presented here. I sat down, opened the book and started playing. Even though it’s one of the first songs people learn, Ode to Joy happens to be one of my favorites. After I figured out how to play it, I got some music sheets of some pop songs I like and played those. I even took a few lessons from Arizona, who had that German “Practice!” down pat. Pianos are cool.

I thought about making the keys on the piano accurate, as well as the music on the sheets. Ultimately, I decided that the essence was captured and the detail was not necessary. There are a few details in these panels that I would like to point out. First, I often stand with my fists on my hips. As such, I ought to practice that pose. Second, I really have NO idea what I look like from behind, other than I have “ghetto booty.” Third, I really like the arm/hand work in panels 2 and 3.

Warcrack 2

This is the day my friend addicted me to Blizzard games. I had missed the big craze for Warcraft (1) completely and had never heard of Warcraft 2 either. But one of my favorite games on Super Nintendo had been Nobunaga’s Ambition. It was there that I learned the maxim of Economics that people are not truly happy unless highly taxed and oppressed. I also learned to “SELL FUCKING RICE!” But once I played Warcraft 2, I was hooked. The feeling of impending doom when facing off against another human while trying to build a stable economy was thrilling. It was really the first time I had ever played against another person in a game. Sure, there was Street Fighter and Mario, but this was wholly different. This was a person in another room, in another building, and you had NO idea when they were coming to destroy you. Not to mention the comedic element in Blizzard games. “Yes, m’lord.” “YES M’LORD?! Get in that mine peasant! Don’t you ‘Yes m’lord me!’ If I wanted commentary, I’d give it to you!”

Internet Evils

The very next thing she looked up was sex chat. The horrible path my aunt went down did not end well, but actually had a silver lining. Her knowledge and experience in the world of freaky deaky sex pervos actually helped me combat a predator who lived with my daughters, Mr Blister himself. If my aunt hadn’t gotten addicted, I might ever have found out. So, thanks Al Gore, for inventing Internet Porn!

On an educational note, the pornography industry actually drives technology quite a bit. The only other thing is games. I don’t think that would make for a valid excuse though, “But, honey, I’m pushing the envelope of cutting edge technology!”

Candy!

My aunt freaked out one day and demanded I produce candy, threatening my life with her spindly Tyrannosaurus claws. Later, it turns out she’s diabetic. And yes, that is a nod to Futurama with the “Zombie Jesus.” My aunt is a hoot and she was always a blast to hang out with.

Living La Tia Loca

My first years on my own were rough. My parents got a wild hair and moved to Texas the summer after I graduated high school. Once I was in college, they moved to northern Idaho. The middle of nowhere was not my idea of a place to live in the summers and all my friends lived in the big city, so in the summertime, I was basically homeless. I could have gotten an apartment, but then working in the summer would have been pointless. I tried living with a friend of mine for a while, and that was cool, but put a strain on his family. So, I defaulted to my aunt and uncle. They were very gracious and let me live in the basement and didn’t charge me room and board. It would have been nice to have had a place to call “home” though. Let the Aunt Adventure begin….
