Never Gonna Give You Up

Aerosmith was a big thing during these years.  Pump came out while I was in High School, followed by Get A Grip and Big Ones.  I think Nine Lives came out as I was graduating.  The quote was, “New album by Aerosmith means new purchase!”  but I didn’t always have money, so I had to stash the albums someplace safe, where NO ONE would ever dream of looking.  Astley is close to Aerosmith, so…did I inadvertanly invent Rick Rolling?!  Years later, I felt really bad about using Mr. Astley so callously, so I bought his Greatest Hits album.  It remains sealed in package…right next to my Aerosmith CD’s.  😉

Wouldn’t you know?  Greenjeans had a boyfriend.  Well, not really a boy.  He was the lead singer from Fine Young Cannibals superimposed onto a Formorian Giant.  That’s why we called him Good Thing, or Formorian Giant.  He got wind of my friend’s pining from afar for Greenjeans and would glare menacingly.  To this day I think of him whenever I hear the song of his namesake.  Sadly, I think of him and not the girl, but she wasn’t my crush.

My friend did have a thing for a girl who we called Greenjeans.  It might have been her real name.  Hard to say.  She worked at the record store in the mall, so naturally, we spent a lot of time there staring at her awkwardly.  I don’t think my friend ever talked to her.  She was a heart stopper though.  He enjoys Elvish women.

Easter Egg: As I was drawing Greenjeans, I realized she looks a lot like Marié Digby.  So, I used Marié as the model for my drawing.  I used one of her photos from the Arden B fashion shoot she did.  My drawing doesn’t really do her justice, but it’s close.  I think I got the hair and her nose.    I also think the overall body is pretty good.  Eyes and lips were tough.  Meh, what’re you gonna do?

Awww… how sad.  This is one of my many “Charlie Brown Moments.”  My mother worked in sales and taught me very early that the secret to making sales is to increase your attempts, as the success rate is very low.  I took that to heart in the area of romance and was forever trying…and more often than not, crashing and burning.  So, we have the Hastings Girl, who I asked to go with me to a Hawks game.  We have the Basketball Player who was in fact married.  She’s pulling double duty as I Have A Boyfriend Girl #1 and #2.  Finally, we have the Swedish Girl from French class, for which I learned Swedish.  There were others, but I’ll save those for another time.

Maverick, who’s real name was Mavriki, was an a-hole.  Up, down, front, back, every which way a complete douche.  And yet, he had scores of beautiful women begging him to abuse them.  Later, he was in a car accident and it messed up his face.  I wonder if he started being nicer?  Anyway, Maverick represents all those pretty boys who treat women like crap.

The rest of his family was really cool.  They were from some hard core religious sect in Russia that fled to Alaska.  Several people had their hand(s) cut off for failing to dismiss their beliefs.  But I never met those.  I met the cousins.  My favorite was Domino.  He had a false tooth.  Cool cat.

But, this is how I know Russian.  Sadly, all I know how to say is inappropriate, unless you want to talk about calling a cat.
